I remember one day I complained to my Chinese coworker that it was culturally insensitive to comment on my weight, whereas she, in her effort to be culturally sensitive turned to me and said, "Oh I don't think you are fat...anymore!" Funny, I got into a conversation about this with my dad and his 70 year old friend the other day. They were complaining about their weight and somehow it was brought over to me, which of course, is not really the same conversation as two old men and their weight gain. We were all on the same page, though. I told them a story of an African American friend of mine who got his whole front tooth knocked out during a game of basketball, root and all. He was about to go to the dentist and have it put back in (For the second time) when his friend's mother said, "You need to put that back in, because people are going to see a black man missing a front tooth and they will judge you for that."
